Funding for research, development and innovation projects is often very demanding and requires financial assistance from the implementers. Funding can be obtained from national and EU programs through various tenders. Funding is provided either directly or through institutions within the Republic of Croatia, or through national programs. Financing
Horizon 2020 is a European Union research and innovation program for 2014-2020 that integrates the activities of the Seventh Framework Program (FP7), the innovation aspects of the Competitiveness and Innovation Program (CIP) and the EU contribution to the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). Horizon 2020 will contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the European Union's key strategic documents related to research, technological development and innovation, Europe 2020 and Innovation Union and the construction of the European Research Area.

COSME (Entrepreneurship and SME Competitiveness Program) is the only EU program targeted exclusively at small and medium-sized enterprises. By promoting innovation, sustainable growth, cross-border cooperation and internationalization of business, COSME makes an important contribution to the achievement of the goals set out in the Europe 2020 strategy.

It is an EU flagship initiative to support research and innovation, from concept to marketing, complementing national and regional funding.
